Personal Biography

Cathleen Marie Vitale was born on Long Island, New York, August 13, 1964.  She received her degree from the University of Maryland in Government and Politics in 1985. She received  her Juris  Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in December of 1989.

She is a senior member of the law firm of Henault & Sysko, Chartered, located in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  She has been a guest lecturer for the Anne Arundel County YWCA ,the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Anne Arundel County Community College.  She was appointed by the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County to mediate matters relating to custody and visitation,  and marital property disputes.

Ms. Vitale has been actively involved in supporting County and State political officials by her voluntary efforts.   In 1994, she was elected to her first public office, the Anne Arundel County Republican State Central Committee and was immediately voted Vice Chairperson.  After her reelection in 1998 to the Central Committee, she was elected Chairperson of the County Republican Party, serving from 1998 until 2000.  In 1999, she was elected Secretary for the Maryland Republican  Party.

In February of 2000, Ms. Vitale was appointed to the Anne Arundel County.   She has been twice elected to her current position as Councilwoman for the 5th District of Anne Arundel County.   In 2006 she was reelected by 75% of the vote.     She has severed as its Chairman three separate times and Vice Chairman, twice.  Ms. Vitale has been twice elected to the Board of Directors of the Maryland Association of Counties, serving as its Second Vice Chairman this year.  Currently she serves as a Commissioner of the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Commission, having been appointed by Governor Robert Ehrlich and Governor Martin O’Malley.

In October of 2004, she was awarded the Fannie Lou Hammer Humanitarian Award for her contributions to the citizens of Anne Arundel County and her commitment to the advancement of women and women’s issues.  In February 2005, she was awarded the Inaugural Distinguished Graduate Award from her alma mater, Severna Park Senior High School.  The Anne Arundel County Republican Party honored her with a Lifetime Achievement Award in March of 2010.

She  resides in Severna Park, Maryland with her husband, Mark Muckelbauer, an Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, and their son, Mark Jr.
