I have been a resident of Anne Arundel County for more than thirty years. Raised and educated in the County Public School system, I graduated from Severna Park High School in 1982. I received my undergraduate degree in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland in 1985 and my law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1989. I am married, 22 years to Mark Andrew Muckelbauer, a Lieutenant in the Anne Arundel County Fire Department for over 25 years. Mark grew up in Crownsville with his family, also attending county public schools. Both Mark and I have a strong committment to community and service to the community which gave us so many opportunities. We have one son, Mark Jr.
Professional
After graduating from Law school, I clerked for the Honorable Raymond G. Theime, Jr, Administrative Judge for the 5th Circuit for Maryland. I began private practice in Crofton, Maryland with the offices of Whitworth, Weber and Smith on Defense Highway. Political
I was first elected to public office in 1994 joining the Anne Arundel County Republican Central Committee. I was unanimously elected by the Committee to be the organization’s Vice Chairman. In 1998 after being elected to my second term on the Central Committee, I was unanimously elected to be the Chairman of the Republican Central Committee, serving in that position until I was appointed to the Anne Arundel County Council in 2000 to fill a vacancy created by the passing of my predicessor, Cliff Roop. In 1998 I was elected to a leadership role in the Maryland Republican Party and served as the Secretary until the County Council appointment.
I have served on the County Council for 11 years and have been the Chairman of the County Council for three years, and Vice Chairman for 2 years. In 2002 I won 70% of the vote and in 2006, 75%. I am currently the 2nd Vice Chairman of the Maryland Association of Counties having previously served as its Treasurer and Secretary.
I was appointed by Governor Ehrlich to serve on the Maryland Critical Area Commission and continue to serve at the present time. I have been a panel chairman and member of several contentious hearings including development requests of the Black Water Refuge Area on the Eastern Shore.
